Legal and social issues

The Central Commission is active in legal and social matters, a fact that is reflected in the work of specific bodies:

• The Legal Committee of the Central Commission is responsible for the enhancement and the unity of the legal regime on the Rhine as well as for efforts towards harmonising legislation governing inland navigation;
• The Chamber of Appeals of the Central Commission rules on disputes and infractions arising out of the navigation on the Rhine;
• The Central Administration of Social Security for Rhine Boatmen manages the specific agreement pertaining to social security of Rhine boatmen and is responsible for an adjusted implementation Community regulations governing coordination of social security systems.
